Gaudí’s masterpieces in Barcelona combined with mountain nature and scenic hikes.
Trip Snapshot
This 10 day trip mixes vibrant city life with peaceful mountain scenery and works best from May to October when the trails stay accessible and the weather feels pleasant for hiking. Budget level stays at mid-range $ which gives you comfortable stays and good meals in both places. Perfect for active couples, solo travelers who enjoy nature, or families looking for a nice balance between culture and fresh air.
Day-by-Day Plan
Day 1. Arrive in Barcelona and settle into your hotel. Spend the afternoon walking around the Gothic Quarter and soaking up the lively atmosphere. Grab some tapas for your first meal and just relax after the flight.
Day 2. Start early at the Sagrada Familia, make sure to book tickets ahead because lines move slow. In the afternoon visit Park Güell for those colorful mosaics and great city views.
Day 3. Explore more of Gaudí’s work with Casa Batlló and Casa Milà on Passeig de Gràcia. Take a stroll along La Rambla and enjoy people watching with a coffee at an outdoor cafe.
Day 4. Take the train from Barcelona toward the Catalan Pyrenees, the journey takes around two to three hours depending on your exact destination. When you arrive drop your bags and enjoy your first breath of mountain air.
Day 5. Begin with an easy hike in the beautiful valleys near the town. Choose a trail with nice views but not too difficult so you can enjoy the scenery without getting too tired. Pack water and snacks for the day.
Day 6. Take a cable car or local transport to higher viewpoints for dramatic mountain landscapes. Spend time walking around alpine lakes or meadows if the weather stays clear.
Day 7. Dedicate the day to a longer scenic hike or simply explore the small mountain villages nearby. Try local Catalan food at a simple restaurant in the evening.
Day 8. Free morning for one more short walk or relaxing in nature. In the afternoon take the train back toward Barcelona.
Day 9. Back in Barcelona use the day for anything you missed like the Picasso Museum or a relaxed walk on the beach. Enjoy a final dinner with paella or fresh seafood.
Day 10. Depending on your flight time enjoy a last morning stroll or head straight to the airport for departure.
Must-see & Nice-to-have
Must-see attractions include the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell in Barcelona plus at least one good mountain hike and viewpoint in the Catalan Pyrenees. These give you the perfect mix of unique architecture and natural beauty.
Nice-to-have if time allows cover Casa Batlló, La Rambla, a beach walk in Barcelona, alpine lake visits, small village exploration, and relaxed mountain meadows.
Where to Stay
In Barcelona stay in the Eixample area or Gothic Quarter, both feel safe, central, and stay well connected by metro. In the Catalan Pyrenees choose a hotel or apartment close to the main village center so you can easily reach trails and local transport. Look for places with mountain views when possible.
How to Get Around
Inside Barcelona the metro and walking work great for most sights. The train from Barcelona to the Pyrenees runs regular and comfortable. In the mountains use local buses or cable cars to reach trailheads, and walking becomes the best way to explore once you are there.
Comfort Tips
Make sure you have the correct power adapter for Spanish sockets so your devices dont run out of battery at the wrong moment. Credit cards work fine in both city and mountains but keep some cash handy for small cafes and trail snacks. Spanish portion sizes usually feel more moderate than back home so order extra if you stay hungry. People tend to speak softer in public, many shops close on Sundays especially in smaller mountain towns, and hotels respect quiet hours after 10 pm. These little things help the whole trip feel much smoother and more enjoyable. You can find even more useful advice on our Comfort Tips page.
